Filbert holds a Masters in Guidance and Counselling and he is registered with the Singapore Association of Counselling. With extensive experience across a wide range of client groups, Filbert's professional journey reflects his deep commitment to providing inclusive, empathetic and effective mental health support.

His work experience spans across the lifespan - from early intervention with young children to emotional and psychological support for older adults. He has worked with youth offenders, individuals with special needs, and clients navigating complex psychosocial issues.

Before assuming his current role as a counsellor, Filbert worked at the Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore (MINDS) as a Psychologist. He provided specialised support to individuals with intellectual disabilities and neurodivergence such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). His work entailed the impartation of adaptive life skills for increased independent living and community integration, emotional regulation, and behavioural management.

Filbert’s areas of clinical experience encompasses:

  • Individual Counselling: Supporting clients through challenges such as anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem issues, identity concerns, and major life transitions.
  • Child and Adolescent Counselling: Working with young clients facing academic pressure, emotional dysregulation, family-related concerns, peer relationship difficulties and social identity challenges.

Filbert adopts an integrative and person-centred approach in his work, drawing from evidence-based modalities such as:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT)
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI)
  • Schema Therapy (ST)

As every client is unique, Filbert approach each client with a bespoke, collaborative and compassionate therapeutic alliance.

Filbert believes very strongly in continuous growth and lifelong learning, for himself as well as his clients. Filbert views every presenting concern as a new opportunity for the client to learn from. He himself is also highly dedicated to ensure his own growth and development to better serve others.
